Creating Children's Books as Part of Global Storytelling With BIPOC Perspectives

I had the opportunity to collaborate with 24 fellow artists, writers, and illustrators in a workshop centered on exploring BIPoC Perspectives in Children's Literature—a project initiated in partnership with the Goethe-Institut of Finland.

Storytelling

Story by Sita Magfira
Illustrations by Leila Charafeddine

Sita brought to life a poignant short story portraying a young girl's first impressions of a new city, removed from her familiar Indonesian surroundings.

Enriched with cultural sayings and vivid descriptions of locally beloved fruits, radiated genuineness and heartfelt warmth.

The moodboard was essential in providing me with an understanding of her vision and insights into the character's world.

Being set in Autumn, it enabled me to choose colors that harmonized with the season.

Sketches

I started envisioning the characters and the world they inhabited. The script contained essential elements that guided me in delineating the various stages of the children's book sequence.
